It's Groundhog Day - What Will Punxsutawney Phil See Today?

Today's the day that every groundhog fan in the world looks forward to. It's Groundhog Day, and all eyes are on Punxsutawney Phil. I'm sure you know Phil's story, but in case you don't, here's the scoop from

Punxsutawney Phil makes his annual prediction early today on whether spring will come early or winter will hang on for another six weeks.

Legend has it that if the groundhog sees his shadow, we'll have six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, spring will come early.

Since 1886, Phil has seen his shadow 96 times, hasn't seen it 14 times, and there are no records for nine years, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club. The last time Phil didn't see his shadow was in 1999.

The Groundhog Day forecast for the Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, area suggests Phil will have trouble seeing his shadow. The National Weather Service predicts mostly cloudy weather for the area.

Thousands of people descend on Punxsutawney, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, each year for the tradition.
